”Hey, Bea! I’d like you to meet Mr. Ariel Allera. He will be your mentor whenever you’re ready to join Binibining Pilipinas,” the AD Models Philippines Homme et Femme executive director and our Men&Muses head, Dexter Alazas, broke the ice between us.

Beatrice Luigi Gomez was standing tall on the veranda of Circa 1900 Casa Dos Cebu, where she was preparing as guest model of the “Art of Hablon” fashion show which was going to start in a few. She was garbed in the brand AMANO by Dexter Alazas, looking mighty proud to be a Hablon advocate herself, just like the featured designer.

After an intimate fashion gala followed by a cocktail celebration and a coffee klatch at the poolside, Bea and I had a good chat again in the dressing room upstairs, where I was told that she’s currently working as protocol officer reporting directly to Mayor Luigi Quisumbing at the Mandaue City Hall. She was Miss Mandaue 2015 second runner-up, three years after she was crowned Miss CESAFI 2012.

Quite swamped with work and the like, twenty-one-year-old Bea is temporarily on leave as a Mass Communications stunner from the University of San Jose – Recoletos. But, soon, she’d like to transfer to nearby University of San Carlos – Technological Center in Talamban, for convenience reasons, so she can still continue working during the day and studying at night and will be home right away.

While it’s enviable how long her legs and hair are, it’s more admirable how much longer Bea has stayed with AD Models. She reminisced how she was discovered by Dexter six years ago. Keeping Louise Angelica Gomez company to the shop for an interview and assessment as to whether her older sister would qualify as a model, little did the chaperone know that she, too, was bound to be one like her “Ate.”

We touched on her first-degree cousin, the late Rizzini Gomez, who was crowned Miss Tourism International 2012 in Malaysia, but just a bit, for I didn’t want to remind her of the pain that went with her loss last year.

Instead, I left her with a piece of advice: “Dear, it’s imperative that you finish your studies first before you join Binibining Pilipinas. Many things can happen before then, such as Mutya Ng Pilipinas, Miss Philippines – Earth, Miss World Philippines, and so on.”
