There were three Filipinas competing at the recently concluded Miss Supranational 2013 pageant in Minsk, Belarus: Mutya Datul (Miss Philippines), Suzette Hernandez (Miss Canada), Marie Molo Peter (Miss Norway). And our very own Mutya Datul walked away with the crown.
I find it interesting that the three are Binibining Pilipinas alumni. Mutya Datul, of course, was awarded the Binibining Pilipinas 2013 Supranational sash during the country’s most prestigious pageant last April. She was unplaced at Mutya Ng Pilipinas 2012 despite being an early favorite, and the blame was put by many on her performance at the Question & Answer.
Suzette Hernandez, who is Filipino Canadian by virtue of her family’s migration to and current residence in Canada, was an official candidate at Binibining Pilipinas 2011 wherein Shamcey Supsup earned the right to represent the Philippines to Miss Universe in Brazil. Shamcey Supsup placed third runner-up. Suzette Hernandez was Mutya Ng Pilipinas 2010 first runner-up, wherein my mentee Sharon Grace Angel of Cebu was awarded the Top Model of the World title. Then she joined Miss Universe Canada 2012 and was one of the twelve semifinalists. In a year that escapes me momentarily, she entered Miss Earth Canada and placed third runner-up.
I remember Marie Molo Peter as the girl with a very flawless skin at the Binibining Pilipinas 2012 pageant I flew to Manila for. It was Janine Tugonon chosen to go for the Miss Universe pageant in Las Vegas where she emerged as first runner-up. A few months later, Marie Peter competed at Miss Humanity International in Barbados representing Norway, against her Binibining Pilipinas batchmate Ayelee Dasalla who came home with a second runner-up sash.
It was indeed a “Good Morning” when I was awakened yesterday by my missosologist friend Archibald Tanara with such a good news via SMS that Miss Philippines Mutya Datul was crowned Miss Supranational 2013. It just goes to show that the beauty and charm of a Filipina is supraexceptional!
