Tonight, the young and vibrant Cebuana, Miss Philippines Earth 2014 Jamie Herrell, is vying for one of the most important crowns on the planet—Miss Earth 2014.
Our photos were taken after watching the 2014 Binibining Pilipinas Coronation Night in Quezon City last March. Jamie was part of the Cebu team rooting on our friend Kris Tiffany Janson who was eventually crowned as Binibining Pilipinas 2014 – Intercontinental.
But the sad thing tonight is that we, the mainstream viewers, won’t be able to watch the pageant’s live telecast on any channel until tomorrow, Nov. 30, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. on ABS-CBN and earlier at 8:55 a.m. on STAR World. So only those witnessing the proceedings this evening at the University of the Philippines Theater in Diliman, Quezon City, will be able to witness Jamie’s crowning moment.
I’m saying this because I’m fully confident that whether she be crowned as the second Miss Earth from the Philippines or be awarded as one of the elemental queens, she’s not coming home to Cebu sans a crown and a sash. Needless to soothsay, Jamie is fully equipped with both the pen and the sword to fight for the protection of our planet against Mother Nature’s adversaries.
To Rodgil Flores of the Kagandahang Flores beauty camp and Marlon Wafer of Wafer Models Philippines, break a leg both for your girl and for our country. May the best win, and may that be our Jamie Herrell of the Philippines.

I’m no soothsayer. But I, being her coach-cum-mentor for the Miss Cebu 2009 Search in which she won and knowing how competitive and fierce she is, have a hunch that our very own Kris Tiffany M. Janson of the Philippines, will bring home the Miss Intercontinental 2014 crown on Dec. 4, 2014, from Germany.
This photo was taken after the victory party for the Kagandahang Flores beauty camp girls who won three of the five highly coveted crowns during the 2014 Binibining Pilipinas Coronation Night on March 30 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, where Kris made history by being crowned as the first Binibining Pilipinas 2014 – Intercontinental.
Kris just arrived in Germany and, being the amiable girl that she is, our delegate is currently rubbing elbows more as friends than as competitors with more than seventy fabulous women from around the world. In the pageant’s “42 years of elegance and beauty,” no Filipina has ever won its crown.
If my memory serves me right, our highest placement would’ve been a second runner-up finish by one of the most articulate Filipina beauty queens, Maria Sovietskaya Bacud, at the Miss Intercontinental 1995 pageant which was also held in Germany. Last year, Koreen Medina placed third runner-up and was awarded as Queen of Asia & Oceania.
Will this be the year for the Philippines to wear her first Miss Intercontinental sash? Will Miss Intercontinental 2013 Ekaterina Plekhova of Russia relinquish her crown to our Kris Tiffany Janson of the Philippines? Kris’s current mentors (Rodgil Flores of Kagandahang Flores, Dexter Alazas of A.D. Models, and Jonas Borces) would know better than I could easily say: “Hands down!”
Way to go, Kris! Let me leave a question or two in your inbox regarding your thoughts and feelings as the competition is ongoing and the pageant night is in the offing. As I know you’re in the thick of all that, take your time, dear. Thank you for giving us the confidence in you and in our country by being equipped with the essentials for a worthy Miss Intercontinental 2014.
That Cebu is home to the country’s most beautiful women is an open book. Barely two months after Kris Tiffany Janson won the Binibining Pilipinas Intercontinental 2014 crown, another Cebuana Jamie Herrell was crowned last night as Miss Philippines Earth 2014. Both beauties from the Queen City of the South are bound to compete globally later this year, and based on their proven and tested performances at the national level, they’re highly expected to bring home the ultimate crowns from their respective pageants overseas: Miss Intercontinental 2014 and Miss Earth 2014.
Jamie and Kris are good friends and proud protegees of the Kagandahang Flores beauty camp. The former was among the uber supportive spectators of the latter during the Binibining Pilipinas 2014 Coronation Night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City. Here in the photo, we’re headed to the victory party for the Kagandahang Flores entrants who reaped most of the crowns, together with another Cebuana beauty queen Karla Henry (Miss Earth 2008, front, driving), who hosted last night’s Miss Philippines Earth 2014 pageant at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
Congratulations to Jamie Herrell’s Cebu handler, Marlon Wafer of Wafer Models Philippines and, of course, to Rodgil Flores on their mentee’s well-deserved victory.
An earthshaking congratulations to Jamie Herrell on winning the hearts, the trust, the confidence, and the decision of the board of judges to choose her as the perfect Ambassador for Mother Nature.

I’ve been a loud and proud supporter of Bea Rose Santiago since the night she was crowned as Bb. Pilipinas International 2013, although silently, I am jealous of her lean body, long neck, and lovely face. So when she went to Japan to compete at the Miss International 2013 Pageant, I couldn’t wait for her to bring home our country’s fifth, but certainly not the last, crown—because I had so much faith in her beauty and ability.
Voila, it was indeed Bea Santiago, out of 67 equally beautiful women from around the world, that clinched the Miss International 2013 title—joining the roster of four other Filipina winners: Gemma Teresa Cruz (1964), Aurora Pijuan (1970), Mimilanie Marquez (1970), Precious Lara Quigaman (2005).
Bea’s down-to-earthness touched me, in a way that even in the midst of her hectic schedule prior to the competition in Tokyo, she found time to answer all of my questions for my prepageant blog posts. And when, finally, I met her at the victory party for the Kagandahang Flores entries who swayed at the just concluded Binibining Pilipinas 2014 Coronation Night, I was all the more moved by her kindness and gratefulness.
As a token of appreciation for bringing pride and honor to our country, I gave our Miss International 2013 a printed copy of one of my blog posts on her, for which she kept thanking me as I kissed her goodbye, thanked her mentor Rodgil Flores of Kagandahang Flores for the invitation, and left the party together with our newly crowned Binibining Pilipinas Intercontinental 2014 Kris Tiffany Janson and company.

I couldn’t help leaping for joy as soon as Mary Jean Lastimosa was proclaimed as Miss Universe Philippines 2014 at the recently concluded Binibining Pilipinas Pageant. While I was happy for my friend Kris Tiffany Janson for winning the Binibining Pilipinas Intercontinental 2014 crown, it would be hypocritical of me not to admit that I, too, jubilated over MJ’s victory, to the extent that I burst into tears—and uttered “Praise the Lord!”—from my seat.
After a long, winding stretch of time, Mary Jean Lastimosa has arrived—that is, at her third attempt to snag a crown, and this time with the Kagandahang Flores pageant camp headed by Rodgil Flores. Back at her first, she placed as second runner-up to her best friend Shamcey Supsup who bagged the Miss Universe Philippines 2011 crown. The following year, she and reigning first runner-up Janine Tugonon took a leap in the dark, but while Janine was the one chosen as Miss Universe Philippines 2012, MJ was unplaced. And much to the displeasure of her supporters who said that she’s overqualified for small-scale pageants, MJ packed her bags, went to Thailand, and joined the Miss ASEAN 2012 pageant, wherein she was part of the top ten semifinalists.
Indeed, MJ Lastimosa is cut out for bigger things, the most illustrious title in the universe—the Diamond Nexus crown. Her Binibining Pilipinas 2014 victory was significant in that she was crowned by reigning Miss Universe Gabriela Isler of Venezuela, and her crowning moment was witnessed by the Miss Universe of all Miss Universes, no less than the Miss Universe Organization president Paula Shugart.
Mary Jean Lastimosa’s degree of perseverance, determination, and endurance—not to mention loyalty to Binibining Pilipinas—is such that her story should inspire aspiring beauty queens: to believe in the beauty and power of their dreams. All right, ladies?

Although she’s not the first one from the Philippines, I’d like to say that Kris Tiffany Janson has marked an epoch by being the first Filipina to be sent to Miss Intercontinental by the country’s most prestigious beauty pageant, because for several years until 2013, our country’s representatives came through Mutya Ng Pilipinas. Before a frenzied crowd cheering her on, Kris was crowned as Binibining Pilipinas Intercontinental 2014 during the annual Binibining Pilipinas Pageant on March 30 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Cubao, Quezon City.
These photos were taken at our victory party in Quezon City, which was prepared by Rodgil Flores, Kagandahang Flores head honcho and Kris’s mentor in Manila, and attended by her Cebu-based discoverer Dexter Alazas of Admodels Stylefirm, avid supporters Jonas Borces and many others. Together with her fellow winners—Miss Universe Philippines 2014 Mary Jean Lastimosa, Binibining Pilipinas International 2014 Mary Anne Bianca Guidotti, Binibining Pilipinas Supranational 2014 Yvethe Marie Santiago, and Binibining Pilipinas Tourism 2014 Parul Shah—our Binibining Pilipinas Intercontinental 2014 Kris Tiffany Janson was whisked into the official victory party at the Big Dome right after the proclamation of winners onstage. So she arrived at our celebration at already past three in the morning, only a few minutes apart from the arrival of her Kagandahang Flores colleagues MJ Lastimosa and Parul Shah.
I am personally happy with her title, inasmuch as my ultimate favorite beauty queen, Lara Dutta of India, had won the Miss Intercontinental 1997 crown in Germany before clinching the most coveted crown of Miss Universe 2000 in Cyprus. My favorite Binibining Pilipinas runner-up, Maria Sovietskaya Bacud, holds the highest placement for the Philippines, so far, by bringing home the second runner-up sash from Germany in 1995. Koreen Medina, Mutya Ng Pilipinas 2013, was awarded as Miss Intercontinental 2013 third runner-up, also in Germany.
The Miss Intercontinental Pageant is run by Panama-based World Beauty Organization. Venezuela and USA have won five crowns, respectively, since the pageant was founded in 1973. So let’s hope and pray that our lovely Cebuana Kris Tiffany Janson will mark an epoch, again, by winning the Miss Intercontinental 2014, the first, and definitely not the last, for the Philippines.
What makes this batch of Binibining Pilipinas candidates the strongest to pick the winners from is that any one of the 40 official candidates, should she compete internationally, could give delegates from other countries a run for their money. So I find it heartbreaking, to say the least, because much as we’d like to send them all overseas, we can only choose the top five who, respectively, will represent our nation to Miss Universe 2014, Miss International 2014, Miss Tourism Queen International 2014, Miss Supranational 2014, and Miss Intercontinental 2014.
So watch the delayed telecast of the 2014 Binibining Pilipinas Coronation Night on Sunday, March 30 at 9:00 p.m. on ABS-CBN, to see for yourselves how competitive these hopefuls are. They’ve come at the ready to ace shoulder to shoulder with each other at every nook and cranny in front of the judges, after muscling the rigid screening process two months ago through this most awaited pageant night.
Quite apparently, I’ve been very vocal about my confidence in my friend, the 13th candidate Kris Tiffany Janson, because aside from the fact that she’s a fellow Cebuana, I can’t discount another fact that, somehow, I’ve been part of her journey, no matter how small. I mentored her when she joined (and won the crown of) Miss Cebu 2009, thanks to the Admodels managing director Dexter Alazas for the trust and honor.
With her determination geared towards walking away with any of the five crowns, for sure you will agree that this lovely Cebuana, under the tutelage of Manila’s Kagandahang Flores’s top brass, Rodgil Flores, is a force to reckon with.
It’s not that I am such a slavish fan or a biased friend, nor is it because her mentor Dexter Alazas of Admodels assigned me to co-mentor her (which I was honored to do) during her Miss Cebu 2009 stints, that I would go for Kris Tiffany Janson—if I had my druthers, for apt reasons—to win the most coveted Binibining Pilipinas crown come March 30: Miss Universe Philippines 2014.
Having written so much in the past about who would be cut out best for a specific title—e.g., Miss Universe is exclusively for the fierce—now I think that, based on observation, it’s pretty clear as a bell which way the routine is going to backtrack.
When Maria Venus Raj paved the way in 2010 for our succeeding delegates to the recent streak of runner-up finishes at Miss Universe, the winner was the fierce Ximena Navarrete of Mexico. The following year, a far from fierce black beauty from Angola named Leila Lopes stole the thunder of our fierce Shamcey Supsup from the Philippines. In 2012, our even fiercer Janine Tugonon was edged out by an American girl named Oliva Culpo, who had no trace of fierceness whatsoever. And during the Miss Universe 2013 pageant in Russia, the fiercest of our latter-day Philippine bets, Ariella Arida, placed third runner-up to the fiercest Swiss-German-Latin American vision from Venezuela.
Now, are we still going to choose the fiercest of this 51st Binibining Pilipinas batch for the Miss Universe 2014 pageant in Brazil? While it’s safe to say that we might again send someone fierce believing that that’s what we perceive a Miss Universe is supposed to be, I think it’s time that we put a halt to that stereotypical classification and tried to change course for this most prestigious beauty Olympic, where the five-foot-eight Rodgil Flores’s Kagandahang Flores sweetie and Dexter Alazas’s Admodel lovely Kris Tiffany M. Janson of Cebu will certainly look just as perfect in a Diamond Nexus crown as the fierce Miss Universe 2014 Gabriela Isler of Maracay, Venezuela.
Congratulations to Cebu’s very own and one of (Dexter Alazas’s) Admodels Stylefirm’s most sought-after members, Kris Tiffany M. Janson, on making it as one of the Binibining Pilipinas 2014 official candidates!
Can’t wait to start my first official blog and fly to Manila for the March 30 coronation night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. Kris won the Miss Cebu 2009 crown and I’m so proud to have coached and mentored her then. I’m confident that her currently being under the training of Rodgil Flores of Kagandahang Flores in Manila, plus the strong support system of her family and friends in Cebu, Kris Janson is more than ready already to wear one of the Binibining Pilipinas 2014 crowns.
Her Admodels Stylefirm colleague and fellow Cebuana Angeli Dione Gomez brought home both the Mutya ng Pilipinas 2013 crown and the Miss Tourism International 2013 crown. Will Kris bring home the Binibining bacon from Manila and, eventually, any of the Miss Universe 2014, Miss International 2014, Miss Tourism Queen International 2014, Miss Supranational 2014 crowns from abroad?
To Kris, I hope you don’t mind me crowding the blogosphere with lots of posts: that’s the least I can do to show my support, as what I told you when you hosted the Miss Cebu 2014 Coronation Night.
